Our commitment
People with disabilities should be able to receive the same dermatology care, in the same place and at the same standard, as everyone else. Where a barrier prevents that, we will work with you to remove it or to find another way. Our staff receive training on accessible customer service and on the requirements of the Act.
Getting to and around the clinic
DermCare is at 1065 Canadian Place, Unit 206, Mississauga. Details of step free access to the building, elevator access to the unit, accessible parking, accessible washrooms, door widths and the phototherapy cabinet's suitability for patients with limited mobility are to be confirmed by a site visit before publication. If you have a mobility or access need, please tell the referral desk when they call to book so that we can plan your visit.
Communication
We will communicate with you in a way that takes your disability into account. On request we can:
- Provide written information, including phototherapy instructions and after care, in large print or by email
- Read documents aloud and allow extra time for questions
- Speak slowly, face you and use plain language if you are hard of hearing or use lip reading
- Work with a sign language interpreter you bring, or arrange interpretation, subject to confirmation of the service the clinic uses
- Accept telephone, email or a support person as your preferred way of receiving appointment reminders
- Provide consultation in languages spoken by our physicians and staff, to be listed once confirmed
Service animals
Guide dogs and other service animals are welcome in all areas of the clinic that are open to patients, including the examination and phototherapy rooms, unless an animal is excluded by law from a specific area. If that ever applies, we will explain why and offer another way to provide the service. You do not need to show documentation unless it is not readily apparent that the animal is a service animal, in which case a letter from a regulated health professional is sufficient.
Support persons
You may bring a support person with you to any part of your visit, including into the consultation. If a fee ever applied to a support person, we would tell you in advance; at present none does. Where confidential health information will be discussed, we will confirm with you that you consent to the support person being present. In rare cases where a support person's presence is required for health or safety, we will discuss this with you first.
Assistive devices
You are welcome to use your own assistive devices, including wheelchairs, walkers, hearing devices and communication aids, throughout the clinic. If a device cannot be used in a particular area, for example inside the phototherapy cabinet, staff will explain the reason and help you find an alternative.
Requesting an accommodation
Tell us what you need at any point: when the referral desk calls to book, by calling 905 625 5600 before your visit, or when you arrive. Your referring physician may also note access needs on the referral. We will arrange the accommodation for your first visit wherever possible and will record it so that you do not need to ask again at each appointment. Accommodations are provided at no cost.
Notice of disruption
If a facility or service that people with disabilities rely on, such as the building elevator, is temporarily unavailable, we will post a notice at the clinic entrance and on this website stating the reason, the expected duration and any alternatives, and will contact booked patients who have told us they need it.
Feedback
We welcome feedback on how we provide accessible care. You can give feedback in person, by telephone on 905 625 5600, or by letter to DermCare, 1065 Canadian Place, Unit 206, Mississauga, Ontario L4W 0C2. We will acknowledge feedback within a reasonable time, in a format that is accessible to you, and tell you what action we have taken. A dedicated email address for accessibility feedback is to be confirmed before publication.
This website
This website is designed to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, which is the standard the Act requires of Ontario organisations' public websites. In practice this means text can be resized, colour contrast meets the guideline thresholds, images carry descriptive alternative text, the site can be navigated by keyboard and by screen reader, and page structure uses proper headings and landmarks. Referral forms are provided as accessible PDFs where possible. If you find a page or document that does not work with your assistive technology, please tell us using the feedback contacts above and we will provide the content in another format and correct the page.
Documents
Our accessibility policies are available on request in an accessible format. Whether the practice is required to file an accessibility compliance report, and the date of the most recent report, is to be confirmed based on staff headcount.
